I Can't Stand the Horror Trope of Slashers that Can 'Teleport'

Credit to  Teleportation Vector Images | Depositphotos There is one horror trope that always bothers me when it comes to several horror movies.  How the hell can a slasher be in two places at once? What I mean by that is…why do horror directors sometimes ignore how a human can move? I’ve seen several horror movies that were really great, but were ruined by a killer who was able to teleport.  That doesn’t make any sense.  Unless time travel is involved, then go for it, but a human killer can’t teleport! Where does this sudden supernatural ability come from? It’s just so…stupid. So, like, does the mask or the outfit give the killer powers or what? This is a random side rant, but I felt the need to talk about this. I recently remembered a horror movie where the killer was able to be at two places at once, while he was going after two people.  Like he somehow was able to travel across the entire city in seconds to catch up to the other victim. How??? Not even science can explain this!!!

Stupid Love Triangles in Horror Books Always Ruins the Horror Experience

Love triangles don’t belong in horror films. It disappoints me, knowing that great pieces of horror media are get overlooked by their stupid love triangles. I don’t understand why directors/writers think it’s a smart move to throw in a love dispute in their horror stories.

It can become distracting for the viewer and cause the horror scenes in the movie to be quickly forgotten or thrown to the side. For example, there was a book I recently purchased called, This Delicious Death, by Kayla Cottingham, a grisly tale that focuses on heavy themes of cannibalism.

It is written as a disease that the human population gets cursed with; that are forced to control their cannibal urges for the rest of their lives. They become literal monsters, consuming anyone that they come across, ensuring a horrible fate.

It was a great story that was ruined by its stupid love triangle with the main character and her two love interests.

The book was a great concept, the gore was intense, and the panicking moments when the characters would eat someone was actually terrifying and dreadful to read. Then my love for the story started to slowly dwindle, once the main protagonist (Zoey) was stuck between her attraction to her best friend and a random dude she meets.

It felt so out of place in the entirety of the story. Why was Zoey more concerned over her love life, instead of grieving over consuming a dead body she finds in the woods? It was so unrealistic, and it completely took me out of the story.

It was so obvious that Zoey was in love with her best friend, Celeste. However, she preferred to cause unnecessary drama for herself, and got herself caught in a love triangle.

In a normal situation in real life, (if you can call eating a dead body normal lol) that person would be full on panicking, coming to the conclusion that they did an unforgiveable vile act upon a human being.

Why Zoey continued to struggle over her love between two people instead of the horrific situation she was trapped in made no sense.

Love triangles can ruin my perspective of a horror story.

It is really unfortunate that some stories can be ruined by something that doesn’t belong in a story. This Delicious Death would have been the perfect cannibal tale, if it only focused on Zoey and Celeste.

It would have been a cute cannibal love story between two girls that are afraid to convey their feelings for each other. That storyline would have made perfect sense, since they were both stuck in the same situation; and understood each other completely. Celeste was such a great character; I didn’t get why Zoey was struggling with choosing her.

I ended up losing interest in Zoey’s character, because she was such an idiot. Everyone else was aware of the cannibal situation, except for the main character! Zoey was more preoccupied over choosing her potential romantic partner…

…I did not get it.

Horror authors need to be aware when not to include a love triangle. If the story was based on a crazy obsessed ex jealous of her old lover’s new partner, go for it!

If it isn’t that kind of story, then why include it?

Horror fans want a disturbing tale, not a romance novel!!!

Thank you for reading!
