Ranking All Resident Evil 4 Remake Bosses

The Resident Evil 4 Remake is by far the best remake of the entire Resident Evil games that have been released throughout the years. The story, the visuals, the characters and their developments, the action, and the bosses are what truly made the game a great playthrough for all players.

After beating the game after four days of resolve and frustration of dying multiple times by crowds of the dead, I came to really love the bosses that were presented in the remake. I have never played the original to Resident Evil 4, but after conducting my own research, many fans claimed the majority of the bosses were given justice for their counterparts in the original.

I adored each of the designs and the way they fought against the player, each of them was a challenge I eagerly welcomed with open arms (and my multiple guns).

10. Del Lago

Leon S. Kennedy or the player encounter the ‘Del Lago’ fish monster in Chapter 3 of Resident Evil 4. Before Leon can continue his journey of locating the president’s daughter, Ashley, he must take a boat across a lake to search for her. His boat stops for a bit after using stolen gasoline, only to run into the fish monster who attempts to eat him.

The player is given an infinite number of harpoons to kill the fishy beast, as Leon begins a wild goose chase with the creature.

Del Lago was one of the easiest bosses in the entire game, I could be wrong however, since I played the game on easy/assist mode in my first playthrough of this remake. Del Lago just needs a good number of harpoons stuck in him, and he is immediately down for the count.

Boss fight felt less than five minutes, so this boss was a nice start for the very difficult bosses that all players would unfortunately run into later.

9. Garrador

Garrador is a surprise appearance for the player when Leon ends up falling through wooden boards in the torture dungeon of the castle in Chapter 7 of the game. The creature is blind and chained up, so the player has two options, they can choose to walk away quietly, or they can begin to fight the crazed monster.

I chose to fight of course, and Garrador proceeded to give me an ass whooping of the ages. I had to waste several of my healing potions to make sure I was going to survive the fight. Luckily, my trusty shotgun was the icing on the cake to put the monster to rest for good.

I learned my lesson much later with Garrador, and I was ready to take on two of them later on in the game at once. I had multiple weapons at that point, so the fight was fairly easy.

(The wandering dead cult members were actually harder to defeat in my opinion).

8. El Gigante

El Gigante fights against the player in Chapter 4 of RE4. El Gigante is a very entertaining boss fight, from dodging his attacks, evading the giant monster, to climbing on top of the creature to attack his weak point! El Gigante keeps the player on their toes until the end of the fight. I loved the huge foreshadow that I would encounter the large beast later on in the game.

Leon hears the beast snoring loudly behind a huge blue door earlier in the game, and also acknowledges a gigantic pickaxe that was surely held by a large monster at one point. These mini hints are one of the few aspects of the game that made it so great.

Sometimes you don’t need huge backstories or reveals to make a story fantastic.

7. Iron Maiden

The Iron Maiden appears very late in the game of Resident Evil 4. The creature makes its first appearance in Chapter 14, after Leon reunites with Ashley once again. The player already runs into these familiar creatures, known as the Regenerators. What really surprised me was that this particular monster was actually an Iron Maiden in disguise, which is the craziest and deadliest variant of the Regenerator.

I wasted literally all of my ammo on the creature, not realizing that this could have been hugely avoided. I was given a thermal scope that was able to locate the weak point in these creatures, and instead of keeping the scope; my dumbass sold it to the merchant to purchase more room for the number of objects I could carry in my briefcase.

I literally wasted all of my bullets into this one creature in a panic state, just hoping it would die. I did succeed of course, but I was extremely pissed off after the fight. I quickly gathered so much gunpowder to make up for the ammo I lost…it was a great fight though.

6. Bitores Mendez

Bitores Mendez is the main henchmen of the cult leader, Saddler. His boss fight begins in Chapter 6 of the game, but his first appearance already comes off very threatening and eerie when he throws Leon around like a sack of potatoes. He is the cause of how Leon becomes infected with the zombie virus, fighting both physically and mentally to defeat Saddler’s mind control from within.

Mendez’s first transformation actually made me feel slightly sick, I wasn’t expecting his new form to be like a centipede. His fight is both thrilling and fun, the player must fight both of his forms in a burning barn while avoiding burning objects being thrown in their direction.

This boss fight was a little easy, I only struggled with the burning wood being thrown at me; because I kept forgetting I was playing the PlayStation 5 and kept forgetting to dodge the attacks.

Even though Mendez hardly had any screen time in the game, he was definitely a worthy adversary that was deserving of the title of Saddler’s right hand man.

5. Double El Gigante

If you thought one El Gigante was tough, why not throw in two of them; and include armor on one of them? This fight was one of the most unexpected introductions to a boss fight in Chapter 11. It literally occurs out of nowhere, and both Leon and his new sidekick, Luis, are dragged into a fight out of a nightmare.

The two men work together to defeat the two giant creatures as they attempt to crush or rip apart the player. The first boss was very easy to defeat, but the one with the armor proved to be a challenge. I did lure it away from Luis as he was getting a bomb ready for the beast, but once again, I was forced to waste precious ammo. I then almost shrieked in frustration as I missed five times as I attempted to shoot the bomb on top of the armored beast.

Luis had a gun on him, yet he couldn’t be bothered to shoot the bomb for me.

Great teamwork my ass.

4. Jack Krauser

Jack Krauser is introduced into the game at the end of Chapter 11 and is the main boss fight in Chapter 14. Jack is a formidable foe, determined to end Leon; but not without a little ‘teasing’ before killing him. Jack is obviously infected with the zombie virus once the player first runs into the insane soldier. Krauser is a tough fight, due to his movements and his annoying knife attacks.

The second fight only gets harder at the end of Chapter 14, when he undergoes a transformation to make himself a better challenge for Leon. He gains super strength and is able to beat the crap out of Leon as he tries to kill the player. My trusty shotgun took care of the soldier, and I easily took the bastard out.

I was very shocked with how he died, I assumed he would die from his injuries, but Leon didn’t hesitate to plunge a knife into the already dying Krauser. His backstory was also very intriguing, only small hints was revealed through lines of dialogue, but it was enough for me as a player to receive an understanding of what happened to Krauser.

It’s sad how he chose to destroy his own life, but once the thought of power enters your mind, it can be very difficult to escape from.

3. Ramon Salazar

Credit to GamesRadar

Without question, Ramon Salazar is probably one of the best villains in the Resident Evil franchise. Despite his strange/silly appearance, he is a tough foe you do not want to mess with. He carries himself with pride, while coming off very creepy and terrifying.

He proves to be a little tough for Leon to defeat, with his zombie army he keeps throwing into Leon’s path, kidnapping Ashley, and taunting him through the speakers of the castle. It’s honestly scary with how loyal and brainwashed he is when it comes to Saddler. It’s theorized that he was one of the first ones to immediately fall under Saddler’s spell, wanting to serve him in any shape or form.

Ramon shows up in quite a few scenes of the game, but his main boss fight finally occurs in Chapter 12.

Ramon was actually a little tough for me to defeat, he transformed into some kind of fish monster, and his body was morphed like a tongue inside the fish monster’s mouth. He crawls all over the walls as he spits black, burning liquid at the player. I almost died several times during the fight, but I managed to take him out with all of my weapons.

Ramon was my favorite villain from the Resident Evil 4 Remake, I honestly felt so sad I had to kill him. His voice actor did the character justice, and I loved the way the voice actor delivered his lines.

Ramon’s backstory can also be discovered through notes and even photos in the castle; and one part that is mentioned is that Ramon straight up murdered someone after a comment was made against him.

He was a savage beast in the making, and this villain was definitely made with so much love!

2. Osmund Saddler

Osmund Saddler was truly a great leader for the cult.

He strongly carried his beliefs on his shoulders and was determined to make the entire world become a part of his cult. I loved that Saddler wasn’t some wannabe villain that purposely set these beliefs into people’s heads to take control of them, he actually believed in his own ‘religion,’ and wanted to spread his power to the world.

Saddler is of course, the final boss fight of Resident Evil 4, and his transformation is freaking awesome. He turns into a sort of four-armed monster with a huge eye sticking out of his mouth. What’s crazy is that he continues to spew out his nonsense of what he believes in, while trying to kill the player.

Sometimes he will jump off the platform to another area, to summon bugs and spit out the same black liquid Ramon did at the player. The fight is absolutely insane, and it is a great closure boss fight for the game.

Then just when you think that Leon has defeated Saddler, one more transformation is thrown in. Saddler becomes an orange ball, with black liquid tentacles swarming around him. Not surprisingly, Sadder is defeated with a weapon that many bosses fail to survive, the rocket launcher.

Watching Leon take off with Ashley after defeating a monster that led the entire cult is a great conclusion to this wonderful game.

1. Verdugo

Verdugo is hands down the toughest boss to defeat in the Resident Evil 4 Remake. He goes head-to-head with the player in Chapter 10, using his strength and agility to defeat Leon. I struggled so much to defeat this boss; the way he moved was what made him so tough to kill.

It didn’t help that he could take so much ammo head on without going down without a fight. I wasted all of my ammunition on this huge creature, and I instantly gave up, and resorted to the $50,000 rocket launcher I had purchased from the merchant just in case.

I wasn’t surprised that he died on the spot, no monster ever survives the rocket launcher. This dude was such a challenge for me, I knew about the resources I had by my side, such as the lever I could use in the hallway to freeze him. Unfortunately, I don’t have the patience nor the time, so I decided to take him on myself with all of my weapons.

I didn’t think he would be that difficult, I almost died multiple times against this guy; and I used all of my healing potions during this fight. It’s embarrassing that I almost died that many times, with the knowledge I was playing on easy, but Verdugo was a different kind of fight.

I did like how menacing he appeared in his very first scene, alongside Ramon while watching Leon and Ashley first enter the castle. I knew that I would eventually run into Ramon’s henchmen, but I did not expect such a brutal fight. Awesome boss fight, the only one I truly felt delivered a real challenge for me as a gamer!

Resident Evil 4 is a fantastic game that will remain one of the best action games ever made. It deserves to be in the ‘top ten pedestal’ of the best action games ever brought to the screen for gamers. Resident Evil 5 was my first introduction to the Resident Evil franchise, so I can’t wait for this specific remake, especially after that surprise ending in Resident Evil 4 of Wesker’s return!

Thank you for reading!
