I'm Really Excited for Joseph Quinn as Emperor Geta in Gladiator 2

I know this really isn't horror related, but I have wanted to bring this topic up for a long time.  After watching Joseph Quinn perform in Stranger Things as Eddie, I instantly knew that this actor was going to become huge. So far, he has already made a name for himself in the horror genre, appearing in A Quiet Place: Day One, Stranger Things , and another film that will be directed by the author who wrote American Psycho! I'm so happy to see that Quinn is now going to play a villain in Gladiator 2. I have a gut feeling he is going to deliver one of the best villain performances so far this year. Writing horror can be tough, but it can sometimes be a great challenge to explore! Psychological horror is one of my personal favorites when it comes to writing horror stories.

What makes this genre fun is the use of your characters in these types of stories! I mostly like to use first person point of view, because it does make it a little easier for me to play with this kind of horror!

Focusing on the main character’s mind can really make your story blossom with the use of horror! There are a number of elements that you can use with your character to stand out in your story:

  • You could use your character as an unreliable narrator to confuse your readers and provide a sort of tension.
  • You can explore the madness and terror of your character’s mind; you could use other characters to make the character believe they are being taunted!
  • You can use crazy descriptions of what the character believes they are witnessing; body horror would be the perfect genre to use here!

From personal experience, this is what I have done in several of my stories. It’s a really neat experiment to work with, and it’s how I learned how to challenge myself through my writing.

Writing psychological horror is pretty entertaining, because it gives you the chance to learn how to tackle your main character’s mind in your story!
