Pearl is a Wicked and Horrific Start to a Memorable Horror Trilogy

Have you ever been so impressed and scared of a character at the same time? Mia Goth pulls off such a likable character with terrifying tendencies of murder and mayhem.
Pearl is actually a prequel to one of my favorite horror trilogies, X. This trilogy was directed by Ti West, and it featured Mia Goth playing two different characters.
She plays both the antagonist and the protagonist in this trilogy, and the prequel starts off Mia as the villain, Pearl. Unlike the protagonist that has her dreams come true, Pearl isn’t exactly given the same happy ending.
If it hadn’t been for her killer self, maybe she would have had a chance in the ‘star world.’ Instead, we are given a total downfall of Pearl embracing her monstrous side, killing anyone that stands in her way.
Pearl is determined to leave the farm and start a new life elsewhere, but her present life consumes her.

I’m curious if Pearl was born evil, or if she allowed her life to destroy every piece of her. Once her husband went off to war, it’s like Pearl went down an endless spiral of hate and evil.
She began to resent her farm life with her family, and even started an affair with a movie projectionist to experience some form of freedom.
Everything builds up to a horrible outcome, and she decides to murder anyone who would dare to oppose her. She murders her parents, and then kills the man she is having an affair with.
Afterwards, she decides to begin her journey of starting a dancing career by attending an audition with her sister-in-law, Mitsy.
You have to give Pearl some credit, she sure knows how to multitask.
Please ignore that joke.
Pearl is rejected from the dance audition and reaches her breaking point.

I don’t think I have cringed so hard watching a character react so badly to rejection. Pearl is forcibly dragged away from the audition, and Mitsy attempts to comfort her when they get back home.
Mitsy then asks Pearl to pretend to be her brother, so that Pearl can let out all of her dark secrets to her husband. What follows is a great monologue from Mia Goth, and I loved how she delivered her speech.
She genuinely sounded so heartbroken, but at the same time, how could you feel so bad for a monster?
I was hoping that Mitsy would get away, but she made too many stupid decisions that led to her death.
The smartest option after that confession should have been an instant bolt from the farm, but she stays instead, and runs away in heels. Obviously, she was going to trip. Pearl then proceeds to axe her to death.
Then we get a full-on display of her madness as she chops up Mitsy’s body to feed to her pet alligator, and then she props her parents’ bodies at the dinner table.
There was one part of this scene that was so disgusting, I had a hard time stomaching the entire dinner part.
Is stomaching a word?
Then we see her husband finally come home, to a horrible sight of her dead parents at the table, and a crazy Pearl smiling at him.
I can’t believe that he stayed with her. She killed his sister for crying out loud. I guess love knows no bounds, as we see them as old people still continuing to kill in the first movie, X.
Pearl is a messed-up film, but Mia Goth keeps it entertaining from beginning to end. She truly brought to life a great trilogy through her great acting, and she makes the best screams I have ever heard from an actress.
She is truly one of the best scream queens in our generation!
