The Substance is a Body Horror Triumph with Incredible Practical Effects

The Substance follows the story of a woman named Elisabeth Sparkle, who is now turning 50 years old. She appears to be living her best life. She is a fitness instructor for a TV show, she is beautiful and rich. Then her boss decides to kick her out of the studio, for a younger woman that will take the place of Elisabeth. Obviously distraught and angry, she begins to experience a moment of midlife crisis.  She ends up getting into a car accident during her dilemma, and she is taken to the hospital. Even though she learns that she did not sustain any form of injury, she has a breakdown after everything that she endured.  Then a random nurse gives her something known as The Substance , and writes a note that simply says: “It changed my life.” After Elisabeth learns about this strange product, she decides to use The Substance …and is given a better version of herself.  Elisabeth w

The Black Phone is Another Wonderful Old - School Horror Story that is Perfect for Halloween

I will never forget the first time I watched The Black Phone in theaters. This film blew me away, due to how original the story was, and the characters. 

I loved how everything in the film was just happening, and that every single plot point was open to interpretation for the audience. 

Like the serial killer for example, The Grabber. 

It honestly bothered me that we never actually learn anything about the killer himself, he was a total mystery throughout the entire film, and he was downright terrifying. 

It was so creepy watching keep on changing masks during the movie, to portray his emotions. He felt like a different person each time, and it scared the crap out of me.

This entire film was like a big mystery, and it was up to the viewer to come up with their own theories for the story. 

I think that all of these insane story elements taking place was done on purpose to confuse the viewer. Just like the main character stuck with the killer known as The Grabber, we are kept in the dark. 

I have to appreciate the director for taking such a huge risk with taking this film horror in a completely different direction. Horror is all about taking risks after all, and Scott Derrickson understood the assignment!

I normally mention big plot points about the horror movies I talk about, but I’m going to make an exception for The Black Phone. 

This movie is too special to spoil anything, and I highly recommend that you guys watch this movie during the spooky season!

It’s another perfect horror film for Halloween!
