The Evil Dead Movie Series is the First Franchise to Introduce Me to Extreme Gore

I had seen so many gory horror films before I had begun to watch The Evil Dead franchise. I couldn't believe how violent this series was, and I fell in love with how creative and insane the kills were.  I really came to love splatterpunk gore, it can be entertaining if given to the right director, and as long as the gore is used to progress the story, I'm totally fine with crazy deaths.  Cause let's face it, throwing in crazy gore without a decent story can become pretty boring very quickly.  Luckily, The Evil Dead is a damn great franchise that never fails to surprise me.  Heck, the TV show is one hell of a ride.  In one of the best scenes in this franchise, there is a part where Ash, the main character, and his companions decide to visit a diner, but they are attacked by demons.  Literally every single character who isn't o

I Will Never Forgive Netflix for Canceling David Fincher's Mindhunter

Let’s face it, we have all experienced a moment where we got so upset over a cancellation of a good show. This happened to me for the first time when I found myself watching a TV show called Mindhunter

It was released on Netflix, and I couldn’t believe my eyes when I realized the show was created by David Fincher.

I’m a major fan of this director, he has made so many movies that are considered masterful stories, and I knew I was going to binge this show pretty quickly.

So, imagine my disappointment when I realize that Netflix strikes again, and decided to cancel the damn show.

Why???

I understand that the ratings were a bit low for the second season, but I felt that it was too soon to actually determine the cancellation for a show that received huge positive reviews from fans.

Mindhunter follows the story of three FBI agents that interview real serial killers.

Mindhunter sounds like a show that would have failed if it hadn’t been for the brilliant mind behind this idea.

David Fincher of course blows his audience away, introducing three characters that the viewer will fall in love with. The story centers around three FBI agents named Holden, Wendy, and Bill.

All three are given the task of interviewing dangerous real life serial killers, and they must learn the psychology behind these killers, to receive an understanding of why they committed such evil acts.

Holden, Wendy, and Bill really carry this show, because of how interesting and complicated each character is. It’s obvious why they are meant for this kind of difficult and terrifying job.

None of them exactly are living the best life behind the scenes.

Holden is a human who is devoid of empathy, who struggles in his social and romantic life.

Wendy is a gay woman who is forced to hide her sexual orientation from the world and is never really happy. (The show takes place in the 70s to early 80s).

Bill has a wonderful family, but he comes to learn that the son he adopted is possibly some kind of future psychopath.

Their lives sound pretty rough, right?

This is what makes the show so great. We are given an understanding as to how they are able to handle their work, they are not happy human beings, but they want to try their best to help others who are suffering in the world.

Even if that means they will lose themselves into their work of interviewing serial killers, they will do whatever it takes.

Now, I want to discuss another reason why I love this show.

The real-life serial killers presented in the show are seen as vile and evil, not fictionalized versions like Hollywood prefers to do.

I have talked about this sensitive subject in a past article that I can’t stand the use of true crime in films. I always feel that directors like to use real killers as money making machines, and to get attention from audiences.

This has always pissed me off, because I always feel like the real victims were always overlooked every time. The killers are for some really messed up reason, glorified in Hollywood in a creepy and terrifying way.

It bothers me that there are people out there that find these monsters attractive, and that Hollywood likes to continue feeding this idea into audiences.

We can thank Ryan Murphy’s take on true crime for that downfall. Seriously, why the hell would you want to make the serial killers attractive? That’s so creepy and scary to me.

And what he did with the Menendez brothers in his latest TV show…I heard stuff from people who saw it…and I freaked out. That is so disgusting and sick. It was a real thing that happened…why would anyone want to film that?

When it comes to David Fincher however, we are given a real-life perspective into these monsters.

The victims are talked about in appropriate manner, and the characters bring to light that what these killers did was beyond evil.

None of these killers are given glory in any shape or form. Heck, Fincher even casted actors who look just like the killers, and let me tell you, I felt extremely tensed up watching these scenes.

I wanted the interviews to be over each time, and once they were, I was able to let out a sigh of relief. Even the main characters looked extremely uncomfortable interviewing these monsters.

Why?

Because that’s how it’s supposed to feel.

They are not fictionalized fan versions that Hollywood likes to do. They are the real thing, and these killers are supposed to be terrifying.

Not hot. Not glorified. Not popular.

They are meant to be seen as evil.

And that is what David Fincher does quite well. And I have to say that this is the only piece of true crime media that was executed in the way that it’s meant to be.

So yeah, I’m pretty damn upset Netflix decided to cancel this show.

I will never forgive them for this decision. This show deserved more seasons, because David Fincher is a great storyteller, and each of these three characters deserve some sort of a happy ending.

Mindhunter season 3, where the hell are you???

Thank you for reading!
