The Evil Dead Movie Series is the First Franchise to Introduce Me to Extreme Gore

Credit to  Evil Dead Theory:Evil Dead (1981) is set in it’s own universe : r/EvilDead I was in shock the first time I watched The Evil Dead . I had seen so many gory horror films before I had begun to watch The Evil Dead franchise. I couldn't believe how violent this series was, and I fell in love with how creative and insane the kills were.  I really came to love splatterpunk gore, it can be entertaining if given to the right director, and as long as the gore is used to progress the story, I'm totally fine with crazy deaths.  Cause let's face it, throwing in crazy gore without a decent story can become pretty boring very quickly.  Luckily, The Evil Dead is a damn great franchise that never fails to surprise me.  Heck, the TV show is one hell of a ride.  In one of the best scenes in this franchise, there is a part where Ash, the main character, and his companions decide to visit a diner, but they are attacked by demons.  Literally every single character who isn't o

The Ritual Features One of the Best Monster Designs in Horror

I kept hearing great things about The Ritual, but I knew nothing about the story or what kind of horror was going to take place.

The story follows a man named Luke and his group of friends who decide to go on a trip into the woods. Luke is currently trying to recover from a traumatic experience he had when he witnessed one of his friends get murdered during a robbery gone wrong.

His friends appear to be going through something too, but they all remain strong as they decide to venture deeper into the woods when one of their friends injures his leg during the trip. They take a shortcut to hopefully leave the woods much sooner, but they find themselves caught in a sort of supernatural horror that is threatening their lives.

As the friends are picked off one by one, they eventually discover the main source behind this evil. A monster with one of the coolest horror designs in horror history, with also has a group of people that help the creature gain his power.

It's a fantastic design, I don't even know how to even describe it to you. I know the image above does provide a hint to what the creature looks like, but once you see it, you will find yourself studying every part of this monster. It's like a human combined with multiple animals. It's creepy, but amazing at the same time.

I did read the book to The Ritual by Adam Nevill, and I have to say that I actually prefer the film over the book.

The book's monster design resembles a huge goat. I do think that it is pretty cool, but I think the film's adaptation of the creature was next level horror. Even the cult is cooler in the movie, because wow, the cult in the book is freaking annoying. I got so annoyed with them in the novel, because we spend a majority of the time interacting with the stupidity of the characters, instead of embracing the monster like the audience does with the film.

Don't get me wrong, the book is great, I just sort of lost myself with the second half of the novel.

The film is perfect in my eyes, and I can't believe how underrated this film is. The Ritual deserves so much recognition for delivering one of the best monsters in the horror genre!

Thank you for reading!
